Online Information Security Tutorial

These are self-paced, internet-based Online Information Security tutorials -- there are no books to purchase and no scheduled classes to attend.

The following Online Information Security courses are available online:

  • General Security Concepts provides an overview of access control, including identification, authentication, authorization, and accountability. Unauthorized access is also covered, from hacker attacks to malicious code.
  • Operational Security course provides an overview of physical security, including common threats, planning a secure facility, and four types of physical security controls.
  • Organizational Security course provides an overview of general security policies and practices that should be considered and implemented for a successful information security program within an organization. It also covers topics related to a computer crime investigation.
  • Remote Access and Wireless LANs provides an overview of remote access vulnerabilities, security methods, and technologies. Wireless LANs and their protocols, standards, and weaknesses are also covered.
  • E-Mail, Internet, and File provides an overview of the different standards and applications available for secure e-mail and Internet use.
  • Infrastructure provides an overview of infrastructure in terms of devices and media as well as topologies.
  • Baselines provides an overview of the basic principles for the proper hardening of a system. It also covers various hardening principles that apply to computer systems, network devices, applications, and database and directory services.
  • Cryptography provides an overview of cryptography basics, symmetric and asymmetric key cryptography, and digital certificates.
  • Exam Basics is a synopsis of the OSI reference model and some fundamental network and security concepts.

Technical Requirements

200MHz Pentium with 32MB Ram. 640 x 480 256-color video (800 x 600 is recommended). Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or XP. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher required. Minimum Connection Speed: 28.8k. Authorware and Macromedia Flash player recommended but not required. JavaScript must be enabled. Netscape and AOL browsers not supported.
